Peter George Young, the son of James and Edna (Hartwell) Young, was born on December 17, 1917, in Oneonta, New York. He was living in Schenectady with his mother by 1925, then his mother remarried and they relocated to Schoharie, New York by 1935, and he was back in Schenectady by 1940. He attended the NYS Diesel Engine School in Albany, New York, and worked for the Sears and Roebuck Company in Schenectady after graduating from Schoharie High School.
On August 5, 1941, Peter enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with the 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. Peter saw action in the Gilbert and Makin campaigns after being deployed overseas. Peter was killed in battle on July 9, 1944, during the Battle of Saipan. There is no information known on Peter's burial location.
