Ransom Mead Barrett was born in Margaretville, Delaware County, New York, on March 5, 1887. By 1907, he was living in the city of Schenectady, and before joining the military, he was a member of the Odd Fellows and worked in the restaurant industry.
On July 31, 1918, Ransom enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with Bakery Company, 490 Q.M.C. Until he fell ill and was sent back to Schenectady, Ransom was stationed at Camp Upton in New York. On April 5, 1919, after World War I had ended, he died from his illness at the post hospital in the town of Rotterdam in Schenectady County. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
