Raymond Anthony Godlewski, the son of Anthony and Ida (Przybylowski) Godlewski, was born on November 1, 1920, in Schenectady, New York. Because of his musical talent, Raymond participated in the band, orchestra, and chorus throughout his junior high and high school years. He was a violinist and saxophonist. In 1939, Raymond received his diploma from Mont Pleasant High School.
Raymond enlisted in the United States Army in March 1939 and had his training at Fort Niagara, New York. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and served with Company L, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. After serving for two and a half years in the Panama Canal Zone, Raymond was chosen to attend officer candidate school in Fort Benning, Georgia. Raymond was killed in action during the Battle of Okinawa on April 2, 1945. He is buried in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
