Richard Allen Watts, the son of George and Jane (Sherman) Watts, was born on March 2, 1947, in Schenectady, New York. He received his high school diploma from Mont Pleasant in 1966.
In August 1966, Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with 1st Bridge Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. On December 5, 1969, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam, Richard was killed when his truck hit a landmine. He is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
