Robert M. Murray, the son of Robert and Ida (Mallory) Murray, was born on February 8, 1887, in Delaware County. By 1915, he was living in Schenectady, New York.

On October 1, 1917, Robert enlisted in the United States Army.  He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Headquarters Company, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On May 8, 1918, Robert departed on the USS George Washington for his first overseas deployment. On September 27, 1918, he was killed in combat in Ronssoy, France. Robert is buried in the Somme American Cemetery, France.
