Ruskin Edward Harppinger, the son of William and Mary (Jensen) Harppinger, was born on May 7, 1911, in Schenectady, New York. Before joining the service, he attended schools in Bolton Landing, New York, and worked as an optician for his brother-n-law in Troy, New York.
On March 31, 1943, Ruskin enlisted in the United States Army and attended basic training at Camp Cook in California. He held the rank of Private and served with Company A, 127th Infantry Regiment. Ruskin was deployed to the Pacific on December 20, 1943, and saw combat in New Guinea and the Philippines. Ruskin died from his wounds during the Battle of Leyte on December 1, 1944. He is buried at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, New York.
