Stephen Cowles Hall, the son of Stephen and Ethel (Cowles) Hall, was born on March 28, 1932, in Schenectady, New York. In 1949, he received his diploma from St. Joseph's High School. 

Stephen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July 1949, and received  training in Parris Island in South Carolina, Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and Camp Pendleton in California. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. On October 27, 1950, Stephen was killed in battle in North Korea. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, New York.
