Thomas McPadden was born in County Leitrin, Ireland, on August 16, 1903. He was aboard the ship Cameronia when it reached the United States on March 23, 1925. Before entering the military, he worked for the General Electric transportation division.
In September 1942, Thomas enlisted in the United Navy. He completed his naval training in Newport, Oregon, and Norfolk, Virginia. He was assigned to the USS Murphy and was a Seaman First Class. On October 21, 1943, an accident destroyed the USS Murphy, and Thomas was lost at sea. He is remembered at the East Coast Memorial in Battery Park, New York.
