World War II (1939-1945)

Walter Raymond Pitts was born in Otsego, New York, on December 12, 1912. By 1930, he was living in the city of Schenectady and had worked for both the Spring Hill Coal Company and the Martini Coal Company.

On March 16, 1944, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Camp Maxey in Texas. He was a private first class serving with Company E, 407th Infantry Regiment, 102nd "Ozark" Infantry Division. Walter was killed in action in Germany on February 23, 1945. He is buried in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
