Walter Raymond Pitts was born on December 12, 1912, in Otsego, New York. He was living in Schenectady by 1930. Walter was employed by the Spring Hill Coal Company and the Martini Coal Company.
Walter enlisted in the US Army on March 16, 1944 and received his training at Camp Maxey, Texas. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company E, 409th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division. Walter was killed in action in Germany on February 23, 1945. He is buried in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
