Wesley Decius Karker, the son of Austin and Catherine (Borst) Karker, was born on July 13, 1894, in Sharon Springs, New York. He relocated to Schenectady where he joined the Student Army Training Corps while attending Union College.

On July 1, 1916, Wesley enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with Company F, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On May 17, 1918, Wesley departed for overseas duty aboard the USS President Grant. On September 30, 1918, he was killed in battle during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He is buried in the Slate Hill Cemetery, Schoharie, New York.
