William Charles Breunig, the son of Charles Henry and Belle Vanetta (Wilson) Breunig, was born on December 12, 1920, in Wyoming. After graduating from Draper High School, he attended the United States Army Air Corps Academy in Hempstead, New York in 1940.

On December 23, 1941, William was killed in a plane crash in Denton, Texas, while he was piloting a training aircraft for the Brayton Flying Service School.
