William Green, the son of Louis and Rose (Elkind) Green, was born on March 30, 1915, in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. In 1922, he was residing in Schenectady with his father and stepmother. He worked for the Englebardt Furniture Store.

On February 7, 1941, William enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and was part of the 10th Bomber Squadron, 25th Bomber Group, Medium. William died on May 8, 1944, off the coast of Nicaragua, in a non-battle related incident. He is remembered at the Adath Israel Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
