William Paul Finch was born in Troy, New York, on May 15, 1925. When he was young, his parents moved to Schenectady, New York. He graduated from St. Columba’s High School in the city of Schenectady and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Before being recalled for duty during the Korean War, William, a World War ll veteran, was employed by the FBI in Washington, DC.
William enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 8, 1943 and was called back to duty in the fall of 1950. He was a second lieutenant serving with the 81mm Mortar Platoon, Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. On March 2, 1951, William was killed in action in Korea. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna,New York.
