World War I (1914-1918)

Alva H. Beekman Jr. was born in Johnstown, New York, on June 24, 1889. By 1900, he was living in Schenectady, New York. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for his father before joining the army.

On March 7, 1918, Alva enlisted in the United States Army. He received his basic training at Camp Greene, North Carolina. He was a sergeant serving with Company F, 58th Infantry Regiment. Alva was killed on October 5, 1918, after being wounded in the stomach by a machine gun in the Argonne Forest. He is buried in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
