Samuel Francis Smith Broxholm, the son of Thomas and Sarah (Gibbs) Broxholm, was born on October 13, 1893, in Pittsford, Vermont. When he enlisted in the service, he was living in the Town of Duanesburg in Schenectady County, New York. Samuel was employed by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad as a station agent.
On May 25, 1918, Samuel enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private and served with Company L, 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division. On June 30, 1918, Samuel was deployed overseas aboard the Mercury. Samuel was killed in combat during the Meuse-Argonne offensive, on November 9, 1918. He is buried at the Schenevus Cemetery, Schenevus, New York.
