Leon Foster Buck was born in Westfield, New York, on October 22, 1878. He moved to Schenectady County, where he was employed by Mica Works and General Electric. Thereafter, he moved to Montana to run a ranch before enlisting in the military.
On July 13, 1917, Leon enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort William Henry Harrison in Montana. He was sent overseas aboard the U.S. Army troopship USS Leviathan on December 15, 1917. He was a private first class serving with Company B, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. On July 18, 1918, Leon was killed in battle in Soissons, France. He is buried in the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery and Memorial in France and remembered at the Park Cemetery in Scotia, New York.
