Albert Ward Clement, the son of Joseph and Jeanette (Ward) Clement, was born on June 25, 1899, in Woodbury, New Jersey. By 1913, he had moved to Schenectady.

On June 26, 1917, Albert enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Machine Gun Company, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On October 16, 1918, while participating in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Albert was killed in battle. He is buried in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.

Albert's gravestone says he died on October 17, 1918, but all of his military paper work says October 16, 1918.
