World War I (1914-1918)

Bernard Frederick Geren was born in the Village of Clayville, New York, on June 1, 1894. By 1905, he was living in the city of Schenectady with his parents. He graduated from the local high school and worked as a stenographer for General Electric before entering the military.

On June 5, 1918, Bernard enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was the ship's writer and had the rank of seaman. Bernard died on December 20, 1918, in a U.S. Marine Hospital on Staten Island, the cause of death unknown. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
