Charles Nicholaus Patcigo, the son of Michael and Maggie Patcigo, was born on August 9, 1895, in Schenectady, New York. He was a member of the Fuller Athletic Association and played baseball for the city of Schenectady. Charles worked in the transportation division of the General Electric Company.
On July 5, 1917, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He was assigned to Company D, 16th Infantry Division, and held the rank of Corporal. Charles was seriously wounded in the back and hip on July 18, 1918, during a battle near Soissons, France. He was eventually able to return to active duty. On April 21, 1919, Charles died of pneumonia twenty-four hours after arriving in New York City from France. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
