Ivar Eugene Tinnerholm, the son of August and Olga (Jonsson) Tinnerholm, was born on September 29, 1897, in Detroit, Michigan. By 1910, he and his family were residing in Schenectady.
On September 6, 1917, Ivar enlisted in the United States Air Service. He held the rank of Second Lieutenant. He went to Cornell University's School of Military Aeronautics in Ithaca, New York. Ivar died instantly on July 22, 1918, when the plane he was in for gunnery practice went into a tailspin. The incident took place in Texas at Taliaferro Field. He is buried in Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
