On January 15, 1889, John Zaleski was born in Ostroleka, Poland, a small town on the Narew river in northeastern Poland. In 1906, John immigrated to the United States and resided in Schenectady on Davis Terrace. Before enlisting in the military, he worked for General Electric.
On October 5, 1917, John enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private and served with Company A, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division. John lost his life in combat on July 31, 1918, in France. He is buried in the Oise Aisne American Cemetery, France.
