World War II (1939-1945)

Francesco (Frank) Barone was born in Schenectady, New York, on April 12, 1924. One month before joining the army, in June 1943, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School.

On July 10, 1943, Francesco enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with the 519th Port Battalion. On June 10, 1944, Francesco was on board the Liberty Ship SS Charles Morgan when a German plane bombed the ship, causing it to sink off the coast of Utah Beach in Normandy, France. He is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
