Royce K. Bergstrom was born in Schenectady, New York, on August 29, 1915. By 1930, he was living with his family in the village of Scotia in Schenectady County, New York. After attending Scotia-Glenville High School, he went to work for General Electric.
In February 1944, Royce enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Camp Croft in South Carolina. He went overseas in July 1944, first going to England, where he stayed for a week, and then going on to France. He was a private serving with the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. Royce died in battle in France on August 12, 1944. He is buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
