World War II (1939-1945)

William J. Coons was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 23, 1922. He grew up in the city of Schenectady, and in January 1942, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. Before entering the military, he worked for the Schenectady Army Service Forces Depot.

On November 29, 1942, William enlisted in the United States Army. He underwent his military training at Camp Bowie, Camp Hood, and Camp Maxey in Texas. He was a technician fifth grade serving with the 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. On February 3, 1945, William was killed in battle in France. He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Colonie, New York.
