Eugene Richard Fay, the son of Earl and Mary (Gillespie) Fay, was born on June 30, 1922, in Schenectady, New York. He was a student at Nott Terrace High School.

Eugene enlisted in the United States Merchant Marine and held the rank of Merchant Seaman. When his ship was torpedoed on February 2, 1943, he was lost at sea. He is remembered at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga, New York.
