World War II (1939-1945)

Casper Peter Fernandez was born in 1921 in Indiana. By 1935, he was living with his family in the city of Schenectady. He was a student at Mont Pleasant High School, and before entering the military, he worked for the Hershey Beverage Company.

Casper enlisted in the United States Navy. On November 13, 1942, during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, he was aboard the USS Juneau at the time it sank. In total, 687 men, including the five Sullivan brothers, were killed as a result of the boat sinking. Casper is remembered at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines.
