World War II (1939-1945)

James E. Foster was born in New Jersey sometime around 1923. By 1930, he was living with his family in the city of Schenectady. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1940, and after graduation, he became an apprentice machinist at General Electric.

On May 8, 1942, James enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a first lieutenant serving with the 544th Bomber Squadron, 384th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was piloting the B-24 bomber "Wabbit Twacks" when it was shot down and crashed on May 8, 1944, while on one of his missions, close to Cherbourg, France. He is remembered at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
