John Alexander Friday, the son of Jay and Jessie (Alexander) Friday, was born on February 27, 1920, in Schenectady, New York. He earned diplomas from the University of Maine and Nott Terrace High School.
In 1942, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He held the rank of Captain and served with the 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On February 23, 1945, John was killed in action on Iwo Jima. He is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Hawaii.
