Adolf S. Kowalczyk, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kowalczyk, was born on October 19, 1917, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He moved with his family to Schenectady County and settled in Scotia. Adolf attended St. Joseph's Academy and graduated from Scotia Glenville High School. He was employed by the State Department Highways.

Adolf enlisted in the United States Army and received his training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, and Fort Ord, California. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with Company E, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. He was a veteran of the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign and was wounded during the Battle of Saipan on June 23, 1944. On April 21, 1945, Adolf was killed during the Battle of Okinawa. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
