World War II (1939-1945)

Chester John Kowalski was born in Schenectady, New York, on November 22, 1923. He grew up in the city of Schenectady on Eastern Avenue and was a student at Nott Terrace High School, where he was on the varsity football team. Before entering the military, he was working for General Electric.

In October of 1942, Chester enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a private first class serving with Battery O, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division. After a brief illness contracted at Cape Gloucester in New Britain, Papua New Guinea, Chester died on February 14, 1944. He is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
