Matthew Theodore Kropkowski, the son of Leland and Frances Kropkowski, was born on November 29, 1915, in Amsterdam, New York. By 1930, he was residing in Schenectady with his family. He worked at the American Locomotive Company. Matthew bowled in the Catholic Church League, Schenectady League, and Gazette League. He was a student at the Rueters Bowling Academy.
On April 17, 1942, Matthew enlisted in the United States Army and attended Camp Upton in New York for his basic training. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company A, 774th Tank Battalion, 7th Armored Division. On March 20, 1945, Matthew was killed in combat in France. He is buried in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
