World War II (1939-1945)

Charles Gretten Norton was born in Schenectady, New York, on March 4, 1924. He grew up in the city of Schenectady, and after graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1941, he started working for General Electric.

On February 13, 1943, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He underwent military training at Camp Upton, New York; Camp Hale, Colorado; and Camp Swift, Texas. He was a private first class serving with Company H, 86th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division. On January 19, 1945, Charles went missing in action in Italy. He is remembered at the Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
