Richard Eugene Purzycki was born in Schenectady, New York, on November 21, 1924. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and attended local schools. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric.
On March 16, 1944, Richard enlisted in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He completed his training at Fort Belvoir in Virginia, and Fort Lewis in Washington. He was a private first class serving with Company A, Engineers. Richard died in Japan on November 19, 1945. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
