Daniel Francis Splann was born in Frankfort, New York, on November 18, 1925. By 1940, he was residing on Fourth Avenue in Schenectady with his mother and siblings. Before enlisting in the military, Daniel attended Mont Pleasant High School.
In November 1942, Daniel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and underwent his basic training at Parris Island in South Carolina. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company D, 1st Battalion, 22nd Marine Regiment. On February 19, 1944, Daniel was wounded while serving in the Marshall Islands; he died on February 21, 1944, as a result of his wounds. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, New York.
