Edward W. Zielinski was born in Schenectady, New York, on April 12, 1922. While a student at Nott Terrace High School, he was involved in both the orchestra and the track team.
Edward was a first lieutenant serving with the 526th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 86th Fighter Bomber Group, of the United States Air Force. On March 9, 1951, the B-29 Flying Super Fortress that Edward was an aerial gunner for went missing over the Mediterranean Sea while en route to Britain for a routine navigational training flight. It was reported that the plane went down because of bad weather conditions. Over 35 American, British, French, and Spanish aircraft searched for the plane but were unable to find it; on March 20, 1951, the search was called off.
