George Bruce Gunn was born on May 13, 1949, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Mont Pleasant High School and resided on Davis Terrace with his family.
In February 1967, George enlisted in the United States Army. He received his airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company D, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. On November 11, 1967, George died while missing during the Battle of Dak To. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
