George Bruce Gunn was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 13, 1949. He grew up in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood on Davis Terrace, in the city of Schenectady. Before entering the army, George was a student at Mont Pleasant High School.
In February 1967, George enlisted in the United States Army. He underwent his airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a private first class serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. On November 11, 1967, George died while missing during the Battle of Dak To. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
