Douglas Paul Hallock was born in Pennsylvania, on March 21, 1946. By 1950, he was living in Schenectady, New York. After graduating from Linton High School in 1964, where he played varsity tennis and football, he continued his education at Cobleskill College in Schoharie County, New York. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric in the city of Schenectady.
On October 20, 1965, Douglas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a corporal serving with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On April 30, 1967, Douglas was killed while taking part in the capture of Hill 881 in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. He is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
