Leonard Joseph Anderson, the son of Albert and Nora Anderson, was born on January 20, 1916, in Ticonderoga, New York. By 1940, he had moved to Schenectady and was employed by General Electric.
On July 13, 1942, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He held the rank of Technical Sergeant and served with the 865th Bomber Squadron, 494th Bomber Group. Leonard served as the B-24J Liberator Bomber "The Bull's" engineer and gunner. The crew was conducting a bombing mission over Lahug, Cebu City, Philippine Islands, on December 13, 1944, when the plane's two engines failed causing it to crash into the sea. Leonard was never found. He is remembered at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Philippines.
