Leonard Joseph Anderson was born in Ticonderoga, New York, on January 20, 1916. By 1940, he was living in Schenectady, New York. Before entering the military, Leonard was employed by General Electric.
On July 13, 1942, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a technical sergeant serving with the 865th Bomber Squadron, 494th Bomber Group. Leonard served as a gunner and engineer on the B-24J Liberator Bomber "The Bull". While the crew was conducting a bombing mission over Lahug, Cebu City, Philippine Islands, on December 13, 1944, "The Bull's" two engines failed causing it to crash into the sea. Leonard was never found. He is remembered at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Philippines.
