Andrew Charles McCartney, the son of Robert and Virginia (Shaw) McCartney, was born on August 10, 1949, in Schenectady, New York. Andrew lived in Scotia, New York, with his family until they relocated to Lakewood, Ohio. Andrew would return to Schenectady County frequently to see his grandparents.
On January 14, 1969, Andrew enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was an Airman First Class at the time. Andrew was in the officers' quarters in Thailand when a plane attempting an emergency landing crashed into the structure on April 10, 1970. He died as a result of his injuries. Andrew is buried in the Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery, Niskayuna, New York.
