Anthony Dominick Vano, the son of Dominick and Catherine Vano, was born on March 2, 1923, in Schenectady, New York. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and entered the United States Navy on January 14, 1940. Anthony attended the fleet radio school in San Diego, California, and the aviation radio school in Seattle, Washington. He was stationed in Alaska during part of World War ll.

In 1951, during the Korean War, Anthony was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Washington State. He held the rank of Petty Officer First Class and served with the Patrol Squadron 9. Anthony was with a crew of ten on a four-engine Navy Privateer when it crash-landed in the shallow water of Skagit Bay, 50 miles north of Seattle. Anthony was killed on June 21, 1951. He is buried in the Evergreen Washelli Cemetery, Seattle, Washington.
