Bernard J. Sokolowski, the son of Julian and Eliksa (Kemprowska) Sokolowski, was born on June 23, 1923, in Schenectady, New York. Before joining the military, he attended Mont Pleasant High School and worked as an actor.
Bernard enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Staff Sergeant in Company C of the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. Bernard was killed in combat on December 24, 1944, during the last days of the Battle for Leyte in the Philippines. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery, Philippines.
