World War II (1939-1945)

Bernard J. Sokolowski was born in Schenectady, New York, on June 23, 1923. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1941. Before entering the military, he was working as an actor.

Bernard enlisted in the United States Army. He was a staff sergeant serving with Company C, 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. Bernard was killed in combat on December 24, 1944, during the last days of the Battle for Leyte in the Philippines. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.
