Carmen Civitello, the son of Pasquale and Victoria (Mastrean) Civitello, was born on September 2, 1922, in Rotterdam, New York. He attended Draper High School and worked for the American Locomotive Company after graduating.

In April 1944, Carmen enlisted in the United States Army and attended Camp Blanding in Florida for his basic training. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with the 405th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division. On January 6, 1945, Carmen was killed in battle in Germany. He is buried in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
