Charles Gerald Haven Summers, the son of Franklin and Rosa (Drezelo) Summers, was born on March 5, 1944, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Mont Pleasant High School.
In October 1961, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with Company B, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. On March 31, 1967, in the South Vietnamese province of Tay Ninh, Charles lost his life while saving the life of a medic. He is buried in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, South Carolina.
