Charles Walton Cole, the son of Charles Francis and Pearl May (Salisbury) Cole, was born on July 12, 1925, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Central Park Junior High, and Mont Pleasant High School while growing up on Frank Street in Schenectady. He worked for the Maqua Printing Company before joining the military.   

On September 9, 1943, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He was trained in Camp Blanding in Florida and Fort Oregon in California. Charles held the rank of Private First Class. He landed in the Philippines in April 1944 and was killed in battle on Mindanao, Philippine Island, on May 6, 1945. Charles is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
