World War II (1939-1945)

Clayton Erwin Van Veghten was born in Schenectady, New York, on June 25, 1919. He grew up in the city of Schenectady on Clayton Road and graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1937. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric. 

On April 9, 1941, Clayton enlisted in the United States Army. He was a technical sergeant serving with Company K, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division. On September 22, 1944, while participating in the Battle of Metz, Clayton was killed while serving under General Patton. He is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland, New York.
