Vietnam War (1955-1975)

Clement Foster Lajeunesse was born in Schenectady, New York, on November 28, 1936. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and attended local schools, St. Joseph’s Academy and Nott Terrace High School.

In 1954, Clement enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Before starting his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee, for three years; while there, he was a radio and radar instructor. While serving with the HMM 262, 1st MAW, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Amphibious Force, in Vietnam, he was a gunnery sergeant. Clement was killed when the helicopter he was riding in, which had been carrying out a medical evacuation operation, crashed into the water east of Quang Tri Province, on August 31, 1967. Clement is buried at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
