World War II (1939-1945)

Clifford Millard VanBuren was born in Carmen, New York, on May 17, 1920. By 1930, he was living in the city of Schenectady with his family. He went to vocational high school, worked for General Electric, and was a member of the Bellevue Reformed Church.

In September 1942, Clifford enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He received his training on Parris Island in South Carolina, Quantico, Virginia, and San Diego, California. He was a private first class serving with the 9th Amphibious Tank Battalion, 6th Marine Division. On June 4, 1945, Clifford was killed during the Battle of Okinawa. He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
