David George Koch, the son of George and Charlotte (Macholz) Koch, was born on August 4, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Nott Terrace High School and worked for General Electric after graduating.

On April 14, 1943, David enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and held the rank of First Lieutenant. On February 7, 1945, David went missing while piloting a B-24M bomber between Presque Isle and Iceland. He is remembered at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
