David Stephen Vollmer was born in Amsterdam, New York, on August 28, 1947. By 1950, he was living with his family in the Town of Glenville in Schenectady County, New York. He was a student at Scotia-Glenville High School.
In 1967, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was sent to Parris Island in North Carolina for his basic training and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina for his advanced training. He was a lance corporal serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On November 17, 1968, David was killed in combat in the South Vietnamese province of Quang Nam. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam, New York.
