Earl Wesley Maxson, the son of Dennis and Louisa (Wager) Maxson, was born on October 6, 1883, in Berlin, New York. By 1912, he and his wife were residing in Schenectady.

On January 28, 1918, Earl enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and served with Company G, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. On May 17, 1918, Earl departed for foreign duty aboard the USS President Grant. When he was killed in action on September 29, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, he was in charge of Company G. Earl is buried in the Somme American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
